So many youtube channels literally just focused on showcasing mods. Longevity is also great for Obsidian as it keeps people playing and talking about their games. Go look at what people complain about on the forums (steam or obsidian), its stuff that would easily be fixed with a mod. I would love to add more gear, more enemies and locations, more perks, tweaks like that.

I'm replaying TOW right now and its just such a shame I can't mod it like Fallout NV or 4. You're missing the point about longevity, its not just others replaying the games for years, it could also be you. This is because Bethesda has provided great modding tools for all their games.

When you see people play or stream it its almost always with mods on. Modding IS a central part of Bethesda games, so many people on Starfield threads are mentioning how mod support will keep the game great even if its just No Mans Sky with some Bethesda writing on top. Fallout 4 has over 800 million downloads, again only from Nexus.

And this doesn't include Steam workshop downloads. Skyrim mods have 1,9 billion downloads on Nexus mods. I’m sorry if I come a little curt on this too, I’m just tired (and I’m sure many devs are too) of people asking for this feature.

Turns out people prefer to purchase a license to a fully polished narrative experience crafted by professionals than a piece of software that allows them to create and experience content made by amateurs (I know that there is some incredible mods out there, but the grand majority are not). Gamebryo has had a user friendly toolset since its inception because back in the early 2000s many companies expected user generated content to remain as big as it was. The ONLY reason that Bathesda titles have such great mod support is because they all use updated iterations of a nearly 2 decade old engine. That complicates things a heck of a ton more.Īnd as cool as it WOULD be, you’d also be putting all this money and work on something a fraction of the players will use.Įdit: after reading some of your other replies OP, you need to understand that Skyrim is an outlier. TOW1 runs on unreal, and I bet the sequel will too. As if that wasn’t time consuming and expensive enough, this games do not run on a proprietary engine. You are talking of a consumer level toolset, essentially another piece of software they’d have to develop simultaneously. Adding support for user generated content is very difficult. I think people don’t understand why this isn’t really doable. I don't know where its best to post so the devs see it, but I really think this is something that we fans should push for. They have gone out of their way to allow developers to add mod support. Look at other UE4 games like ARK or SQUAD for simple proof, or look at Unreal's own documentation, tutorials or forums. They use Unreal Engine 4, which has actually come a long way when it comes to modding. So yeah, for The Outer Worlds 2 (and Obsidian's upcoming RPG Avowed) they really should add mod support.

Not having mod tools remove so much potential for improvement. Its either graphics changes or small changes to variables. Meanwhile TOW has just a few mods that changes some minor things. This adds so much longevity to their games. All of them come with official modding tools that are based on Bethesda's own game development tools, allowing you to modify almost anything.

For 4 I add mods to improve the crafting, add tons of new components, and mods that allow settlements to expand automatically instead of me building the whole world.Īll these mods make the games way better, and in the end its why I have more hours in even Morrowind than I have in TOW. Also add some user made expansions and locations (love New Vegas Bounties). For New Vegas, which is a bit old, I usually add mods that make gun play more responsive and intense. They all come with great official modding tools that allows me to change them in almost any way I want. Compared to standard Fallout 4 I actually prefer it overall.īut when I replay Fallout 4, or New Vegas, or Skyrim, I always start by modding them. Its funny, it has good characters, interesting places, and decent gunplay. I really liked TOW, I have played it a lot of times by now.
